Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Pat Killingsworth had a blog post titled, "Can Marijuana and Cialis really kill myeloma cells?" Well it is not fiction, but reality and you can listen to Dr. Donald Abrams, who is a cancer and integrative medicine specialist at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Mount Zion. He is also a vigorous supporter of using marijuana to help minimize a cancer patient’s side effects affectively and affordably, but has yet to see the hard data that supports efficacy against MM.

I had been knowledgeable of the fact cannabis was proven to be able to mitigate the nausea and discomfort caused by many therapeutic chemotherapy drugs. However, what has recently been discovered is that cannibidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of marijuana, had therapeutic value in multiple myeloma treatment. After studying the effects of cannabidiol on multiple myeloma cells, researchers found that, “CBD by itself or in synergy with Bortezomib strongly inhibited growth, arrested cell cycle progression and induced MM cells death by regulating the ERK, AKT and NF-κB pathways with major effects in TRPV2+ cells.” They conclude that, “These data provide a rationale for using CBD to increase the activity of proteasome inhibitors in MM.” Cannabis and Cialis, if it doesn't cure your myeloma you may just go out with a big SMILE on your face.
