I  am a member of the North Florida Multiple Myeloma Support group, and I had the opportunity to observe the the beginning of a new era for multiple myeloma care in the North Florida area.  Dr. Asher Chanan-Khan, the head of the new Multiple Myeloma program for Mayo Jacksonville was a guest speaker at our monthly meeting.  To say I and the group were impressed with him would be an understatement.  Mayo has some of the finest Myeloma only focused programs in the world, with world class programs in Rochester and Phoenix. Now they are bringing the same Myeloma only focused program to the Jacksonville area.  With this comes a wealth of knowledge and new clinical trials that allows patients to obtain leading edge treatments.   He was by far one on the most patient centric, caring, clearly understood, and skilled Myeloma Specialists I have had the opportunity to hear present their views on a very complex disease.  I believe the survival rate at Mayo will continue to improve under his leadership.  Dr. Chanan-Khan, we very much welcome you to North Florida.
Asher Chanan-Khan, M.D.

Edward, Sorry for the delay in answering your question, however I am not a doctor and I would leave that up to one of the listed myeloma professionals. Mayo has a mSmart program that outlines their best treatment plan at mSmart.org. Right now mSmart and many MM professionals believe that RVd with or without stem cell transplant, and R or RVd maintenance is one of the most effective regimens and effective treatments. If you are refractory R or V then a substitution of Kyrpolis for V and Pamalyst for R.

Would my husband who has SPN from Velcade, is a patient of Dr. Rafat Abonour in Indianapolis at IU Simon Cancer Center, is finding ACR from Kyprolis, be able to visit Mayo Jacksonville under one of your MM Specialists, and receive his maintenance therapy which is Kyprolis on Days 1, 2, 15, 16 at NCH near our new home in Bonita Springs, FL? After a breakout session with Dr. Ken Anderson at the IMF Patient/Caregiver seminar in Boca Raton, Jerry is not getting dexamethasone and sleeping like a baby for the first time in two years.

Mrs Wunsch, I will contact the doctors at Mayo to see if they can accommodate your request. Kyprolis has some requirements that must be met to be able to use it. So if Mr. Wunsch meets those requirement, then any cancer hospital can administer Kyprolis no mater where you are. However if he is on a clinical trial, I do not know what process is required. Good Luck and may God Bless your families myeloma journey. Gary
